Jungle & Mountain trails

There are endless options for these 5-day trips, and we’ll make sure we always squeeze out the absolute best from each trip!

  • Trips can be made more challenging for experienced riders (more steep single trails, deeper river crossing etc) or a bit easier for intermediate riders (still lots of trails and river crossings though!). Tons of fun regardless!!

  • We typically ride 150-250 km/day, starting 7.30 am with breakfast, and hitting the day’s guesthouse/hotel before 5 pm.

  • Breakfast before we leave in the morning, usually a pit stop before lunch, then lunch, afternoon tea and dinner in the evening.

  • Plenty of time for taking photos and videos!

Routes

Here are three possible routes for the 5-day Jungle/Mountain-Trails.

5-DAY TRIP ITINERARY (EXAMPLE)
Day 1:

After we pick you up from your hotel/guesthouse in Luang Prabang, it’s time to get the bikes and the riding gear ready.

We start this day easy taking a beautiful small and curvy road on a mountain ridge to the small town of Pakxeng where we stop for lunch at a local noodle shop. From here it’s dirtroad, passing through small villages with lots of happy kids running out to greet us as we pass. It’s also tiger territory(!) though we don’t really expect to see one crossing the road. But you never know…

Time allowing we do a short photo/video detour on a small trail towards the Vietnamese border for very scenic views of Nong Khiaw, where we spend the night in a guesthouse by the river.

Total distance 220 km (offroad 67 km).

Day 2:

After an early breakfast by the river, we leave for a tiny Hmong hill tribe, following a small single track high up in the mountains. Very friendly village, great kids and epic photo ops!

The rest of the day is all trails, taking us through scenic mountain passes, river crossings and small villages. We’ll have lunch in one of them, probably surrounded by curious kids!

Arriving in Khoua in the afternoon, we check in at the guesthouse, then take a walk in this little town, maybe even try the tiny hanging bridge high above the river.

Total distance 113 km (offroad 96 km).

Day 3:

This is a full day of trail riding through the Pongsaly mountain range. We will pass through several Lao Kor hill tribe villages with plenty of chances for great photos! We also cross a dam on a tiny little motorbike ferry – an adventure in itself!

No restaurants or noodle shops along this route, so we’ll have picnic lunch in a scenic area up in the mountains.

Night in guesthouse in the small town of Bountai.

Total distance 150 km (offroad 149 km).

Day 4:

This day takes us through dense cloud forests, and we’ll pass several Akha hill tribe villages where life still looks like it did hundreds of years ago.

River crossings, bamboo bridges and really nice trails, mostly double-track with a more challenging abandoned single-track the last couple of hours before we hit Oudomxai where we spend the night in hotel/guesthouse. Time allowing, we visit the temple and enjoy the sunset view.

Total distance 147 km (offroad 120 km).

Day 5:

This is the longest day of the trip, so we start early after a filling breakfast at one of the local food stalls.

A scenic dirt road following the river takes us to peaceful Nga where we stop for lunch. From here the trail starts, and we’ll enjoy some great riding for the next few hours.

Lots of river crossings, including one where we take a bamboo raft across!

Happy, dusty and probably exhausted, we take a little coffee break when we hit the main road before plain sailing the last bit back to Luang Prabang.

After leaving your bikes, we take you to your hotel/guesthouse.

Total distance 242 km (offroad 144 km).
